As Origami Owl designers, we are thrilled to see new collections launch, but the Valentine’s Day collection can be one of the hardest collections to sell. Between the timing (it was just Christmas) and who our primary customer base is (hello, ladies), it can feel like a huge hurdle to have a successful Valentine’s Day campaign. Here are eight Origami Owl Valentine’s Day sales tips that will have you rocking your business in January and February.
Origami Owl Valentine’s Day Sales Tips: Make your VIPs feel special
I always launch new collections in my VIP group first. If you are able, buy as many pieces from the collection as possible and have a Facebook Live in your group showing them off. If you cannot buy the collection, simply print photos of the pieces and show them to your VIPs, one item at a time.
We know that people love to see and touch Origami Owl jewelry. When using video, be detailed and descriptive when describing each piece. Instead of saying “a light pink wrap bracelet,” describe it as a “This gorgeous pale pink genuine leather wrap is so sweet and feminine. It will perfectly complement any wrap locket bracelet and can be worn year-round.”
If you do buy the collection, allow your VIPs to buy the pieces you have in stock during your launch video!
Origami Owl Valentine’s Day Sales Tips: Make Mom a Hero
Let’s face it, our ideal customer is female and most women are not buying a Valentine’s Day gift for themselves. But, they will buy a Valentine’s Day gift for their daughters. Personally reach out to your customers who have daughters and ask them if they’d like to get them a starter locket, so they can have one just like mom. Even if the mom doesn’t buy anything, she’ll be impressed that you remembered her family.
Origami Owl Valentine’s Day Sales Tips: Don’t Forget Collectors
Because so many of the Origami Owl collections contain limited-edition pieces, it is perfect for collectors- people who want to make sure they have all the charms in their personal collection. If you have any collectors in your customer-base, reach out to them and make sure they know about the new collection. Because the sales window for Valentine’s Day is so short, it’s easy to miss it as a customer.
Origami Owl Valentine’s Day Sales Tips: Vendor Events
Book yourself a vendor event or two in January and make the focus the Valentine’s Day collection. Highlight it front and center. This is one of the best times to reach men. If it’s early in the month, they may not be ready to purchase, but get their names and email addresses so you can follow up with them later. At the end of January, follow up with them and offer to place their order and gift wrap it for them!
Origami Owl Valentine’s Day Sales Tips: Facebook Parties
Use a love theme for fun Facebook parties in January. The Love Boat, chick flicks, Power Couples, there are so many fun options for epic-style parties! Read more about the Epic Facebook party here.
Create a Mystery Hostess Party in your VIP Group where one person will get all of the hostess rewards. And, offer an extra incentive to any of your VIPs who book a party from that party.
When someone tells you they don’t know enough people to have a party, offer to create a multi-hostess party. Create one Facebook event and add multiple hostesses to invite their friends. Each hostess gets her own link, so she gets credit for her orders.
Origami Owl Valentine’s Day Sales Tips: Reach out to the husbands
Offer to send your customers’ significant others a catalog or flyer with their items noted. Include a note explaining why you sent it, so the recipient doesn’t think it’s just junk mail. “Hey Bob, Amy mentioned she’d really love the circled items for Valentine’s Day. Let me know if I can help you put something together for her.”
Don’t forget about the men in your life! Co-workers, cousins, brothers, uncles, neighbors, delivery people, the list is endless. Speaking of men…
One of the biggest challenges in selling the Valentine’s Day collection is all of my customers and friends are women. But this tip changed everything for me!
Origami Owl Valentine’s Day Sales Tips: Go to where the men are and help them!
Call the place you get your oil changed, your car dealership, repair shop, the place you bought your tires, your local hardware store, your plumber, your electrician. Think of all the professions that are predominantly men. Call or stop by and ask the manager if you can bring in some samples during their lunch break. Offer the manager a little something for allowing you to be on-site and bring snacks, if possible.
This is not a traditional jewelry bar, in fact, it’s really the opposite. You want to keep it simple and easy. Don’t bring a lot of items. Simply bring five to eight pre-made looks at different price points. List each item’s price as the final price. And offer to gift wrap the item!
Take orders and collect payment that day. And leave behind catalogs and a flyer of the items you were offering in case anyone missed the opportunity.
Origami Owl Valentine’s Day Sales Tips: Bring the men to you
Host a pop up at a restaurant/coffee shop (think Panera or Starbucks, any place where management is ok with people hanging out) for a few hours on a weekend and bring a small display. Invite your local customers to come by and have a treat and see the new collection.
Create an event through your Facebook business page (not VIP group), so the public can see it. Promote the event to your VIP group and through your newsletter, if you have one. You can use Facebook ads to promote the event in your geographic location and you can specify the target audience (men). Take orders and collect payment that day. And offer to deliver the items assembled and gift wrapped!
